Herb Garden Plants

Herb plants come in annuals, perennials, and biennials like other types of plants. There are so many different types of herbs and each one is different.

If you are interested in a specific type of herb, you should research that one to understand the care it needs and how to use it properly. This article will get you started in understanding general different types of herb plants and what they are used for.

Annuals like basil, cilantro, and summer savory will not survive a frost. They need to be planted from a seed or a small plant every year. Perennials like sage and winter savory can survive colder temperatures and will return year after year.

Biennial herbs are plants that form leaves in their first growing season and flowers and seed in the second season, then die. Biennial herbs like parsley, angelica, or caraway should be sown in late spring directly into the garden. Prepare the soil first by working it to a fine texture and wet it slightly.

Plant the seeds in shallow rows then firm the soil on top of them. Fine seeds can be planted in a mixture of sand which will allow them to spread more evenly. You can also cover the bed with wet burlap or paper in order to keep the soil moist during germination.

Herbs are also grouped into the categories for which they are used. Culinary herbs are probably the most useful to herb gardeners. They have a huge range of different uses in cooking.

Because of their strong flavors, herbs like chives, thyme, basil, sage, savory, and marjoram are generally used in small quantities to add flavor to different types of food. Parsley is an extremely popular herb that is used mostly as a garnish. Aromatic herbs have pleasant smelling flowers or foliage.

Oils from aromatic herbs like loyage, mint, and rosemary can be used to make different types of perfumes, toilet water, or other various scents. Parts of aromatic herb plants used intact can also be used in the home to scent linens or clothing.

They can also be dried and made into potpourri which will enable them to be able to retain their aroma for a long period of time. Lavender and lemon verbena are great herbs to use for potpourri. Some herbs are also used for medicinal purposes. For centuries herbs have been thought to have the ability to cure the body.

Present medical knowledge recognizes that some herbs are beneficial to one's health, others are overrated. Herbs used for medicinal purposes should be used carefully. Some herbs are harmless but others can be dangerous if eaten.

Some herbs are not used for their flavor, power to heal or fragrance. Some herbs are also used for their beauty. Ornamental herbs have brightly colored flowers and foliage. Many have whitish or various light colored flowers like valerian which has crimson blossoms and borage and chicory which grow gorgeous blue flowers.

While herbs can be categorized into these different categories of uses, many herbs have multiple purposes. For example, mint may be used for cooking, tea, and pest control. Whatever the reason you have an interest in herbs, by understanding herb garden plants you are able to pick the herbs that will be most useful to you.

Helpful Tips for a Beautiful and Flawless Skin

We all want to wake up to having perfect skin. So what is the secret of flawless skin? The secret to beautiful skin is no secret at allwhat you have to do is take care of yourself by routinely following a few tips (and perhaps a detox from time to time). Complete skin care can be summed up in three categories, all of which are equally important: nourishment, skin hygiene, and stress.

Nourishment

When it comes to skin care, everyone focuses on the cleansing and moisturizing but what we tend to forget is that nourishment is the real basis. Be sure to eat enough vegetables and fruits, and choose food rich in proteins, antioxidants, and vitamins, especially vitamin C.

Lower your intake of sugar and dairy products, except yogurt which is actually good for you due to its helpful bacteria. You should also cut down on alcohol and caffeine, and try to avoid fried and spicy food.

Apart from food, your daily consumption of water is also significant for the state of your skin. Make sure to drink enough of it, about 2 liters per day.

Stress

You can have a perfect diet and your skin cleaning technique may be spotless, yet it is also important to note that stress also leaves a mark on our skin, especially in the form of wrinkles and skin dryness. The skin on your face is influenced by stress as much as the rest of your body.

There are different ways to reduce stress, if possible lessen or eliminate stress factor but also try doing any kind of sport or exercise. Sleep is also crucial for stress management, so try to sleep for 8 hours every day.

Skin hygiene

So, apart from food and stress, you also have to take care of your skin hygiene. When cleaning your skin, make sure you use products that suit your skin type. But regardless if your skin belongs to normal, oily, dry, combination or sensitive skin type, the routine is the same: cleansing, exfoliating, moisturizing and applying sun cream.

Cleanse your skin daily

When cleansing your skin, make sure you wipe off your makeup first. This is even more relevant when it comes to waterproof makeup because makeup blocks pores which can result in blackheads. You can cleanse your skin with different products but what is more important is the frequency of cleansing. It is enough to clean their face once or twice a day.

Wash your face in warm water, as hot water can actually make your skin more oily. Also, popping pimples is not a good idea, since it can lead to scarring. Try to lower the swelling by using rose water or baking soda.

Pro tip: since daily removal of waterproof mascara can irritate the sensitive skin around your eyes try using semi permanent eyelashes instead.

Moisturize to protect your skin

After cleaning your skin, use moisturizer to shield your skin from dirt and elements. Though moisturizing is useful do not apply it during the night, as skin needs rest too. If you dont want to use a product, you may want to try some natural alternatives such as shea butter, aloe vera, coconut or olive oil.

Exfoliate weekly

Apart from cleaning the skin, it is also important to exfoliate it as well. Exfoliating offers deeper cleansing of pores and removal of dead skin cells. It shouldnt be done too often, no more than once or twice a week. You can use any kind of facial scrubs but you can also use baking soda, sea salt or honey and even coffee!

Applying sun cream

Sun rays, including UVA and UVB rays, harm your skin in the long run, by causing wrinkles and spots. This is why it is important to use sun cream to protect your skin. Apply creams with the SPF of 30 or higher. Do not only use it on the beach at summer time but also in snowy mountains, as snow also reflects the sun.

All in all, it is not impossible to have beautiful skin, but you have to be persistent. Create your personal skin cleaning routine, find the time and ways to relax and take care of your diet. These tips should provide you with beautiful and flawless skin even without the use of professional makeup or Photoshop.

Heat Up Your Thanksgiving Dinner

Heat Up Your Thanksgiving Dinner

Did you know that research reflects eating chiles at least 24 out of every 30 days really assists overall health and well-being. This research was conducted by Jin Y. Kang, MD of the National University of Singapore and reported in my book, "Real Women Eat Chiles".

A few assorted facts from his study reflects that ulcer-free patients ate 2.6 times more chile than those with ulcers. Those who got ulcers only ate chiles 8 times a month compared with those who them 24 times. Eating chiles also helps reduce hypertension, by increasing the pulse which helps stem off strokes and the ravishing effects of high blood pressure.

Increase your health happily, by adding chiles to your Thanksgiving dinner. Add green or red chile to the stuffing (or dressing), as well as to the gravy. Pure, ground red or green chiles are the easiest way to add them.

You can also add chiles to your side dishes or salads. Some ideas are powdered or crushed red chile is wonderful along with cinnamon or nutmeg with sweet potatoes. Crushed caribe chile is terrific on green vegetables, from green beans to Brussels sprouts to broccoli. You can also add lemon or lime juice or a special vinegar such as sherry or balsamic. Add chiles to spice walnuts, pecans or croutons for salad garnishes.

And believe it or not, chiles are great in desserts, from chocolate cake to pumpkin pie. So live it up--chiles lift your heart and your health!!

Here's some fun ideas for spicy appetizers. For a different taste and perfect timing for fall harvest, prepare Roasted Beets with Romesco sauce several days ahead of time and serve cold. Or try Grilled Serrano-Lime Shrimp which can be marinated a day or two ahead for last minute grilling or broiling. These recipes are from the new expanded revision of Chili Madness cookbook, published, October, 2008.

ROASTED BEETS WITH ROMESCO SAUCE

Beets are either loved or hated, and many people are in the latter camp. But I have won over dedicated beet haters by serving them this appetizer. You will be amazed at how terrific the roasted beets taste with this creamy, spicy, flavorful sauce. I sampled this dish first as a Spanish tapa, and I have been making it ever since. The sauce, by the way, can substitute for a remoulade sauce with seafood such as shrimp, crab, or crayfish, or with vegetables, such as steamed or boiled tiny new potatoes. When roasting, leave 3 inches of stem on the beets to prevent the juice from bleeding too much.

Yield: Serves 6

6 to 8 small fresh beets (about 1 bunch)
1 medium-size ripe tomato
2 large cloves garlic
5 blanched almonds
1 Tablespoons red wine vinegar
cup good-quality extra-virgin olive oil
corn tortilla (6-inch), torn into chunks
1 Tablespoon pure ground mild red chile
Generous pinch of pequin quebrado
Salt and freshly ground pepper

1.Prepare the beets: Preheat the oven to 350F. Wash and dry the beets, and trim the stems to 3 inches long (you can discard the leaves or reserve them for another use).

2.Place the beets on a baking sheet and transfer them to the oven. Roast the beets until their skins move slightly when touched with a spoon, about 30 minutes for small beets (less then 2 inches in diameter), up to 60 minutes for larger beets.

3.While the beats are roasting, prepare the romesco sauce: Rinse the tomato, remove the core, and cut a very shallow X into the bottom (this will allow you to remove the tomato's skin when it's cooked). Place the tomato, stem end up, the garlic, and the almonds on an ungreased baking sheet and place them in the oven. Roast in the oven along with the beets for about 15 minutes. Remove the garlic and almonds. Then continue to roast the tomato until it is soft, about 15 minutes more. Remove it from the oven. When the tomato and the garlic cloves are cool enough to handle, slip off the skins.

4.Let the beets cool until they're still warm but not hot to the touch. Then peel them by tugging at the skin with a sharp paring knife- the skin and stems should slip off. Any stubborn portions will need to be peeled with a knife. Dice the beets into -inch cubes.

5.Pour 1/3 cup water, the vinegar, and the oil into a blender. Add the roasted tomato, garlic, and almonds, followed by the tortilla chunks, ground chile, pequin quebrado, and salt and black pepper to taste. Process until smooth. Then Tast, and adjust the seasonings as needed. Transfer the sauce to a small serving bowl.

6.Center the bowl of sauce on a serving platter and surround it with the diced beets. Provide toothpicks for piercing the beets and dipping them into the sauce.

GRILLED SERRANO-LIME SHRIMP

These zesty shrimp are marinated in freshly squeezed lime juice, then amped up with hot Serrano chiles. They're excellent party fare and an elegant appetizer for an intimate dinner. You can double, triple or even quadruple the recipe as you with.

Yield: Serves 6

cup fresh lime juice
2 serrano chiles (or to taste), stemmed, seeded (if you wish to reduce the heat), and finely minced
teaspoon salt
2 cloves garlic, minced
24 medium-size shrimp, peeled and deveined
1 teaspoon crushed caribe chile or pequin quebrado, for garnish
1 small bunch fresh cilantro or Italian (flat-leaf) parsley, for garnish

1.Place the lime juice, serranos, salt, and garlic in a large nonreactive bowl and stir to combine. Blot the shrimp dry with paper towels and add them to the marinade. Marinate the shrimp, covered, in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours or up to a day.

2.Preheat the grill or broiler to medium-high heat.

3.Thread the shrimp onto metal skewers, 3 or 4 shrimp to a skewer, piercing the center of the shrimp and making sure each shrimp nests under the previous one and faces the same way. Make sure the shrimp aren't tightly squeezed together, as this will produce uneven cooking.

4.Grill the shrimp until they just turn pink, 2 to 3 minutes per side. (Be careful not to overcook them, or they will become tough and dry)

5.Transfer the shrimp, still on their skewers, to a serving platter. Sprinkle with the crushed caribe chile, then garnish with the cilantro sprigs. Serve warm.

Healing Your Experience of Inner Emptiness

Healing Your Experience of Inner Emptiness

Healing Your Experience of Inner Emptiness

What do you think causes you to feel empty inside? Is it the lack of other people in your life and what they're not doing, or that we have not fulfilled a dream we've long had? When I was younger, I had no clue about what was important to me or how I was feeling. I had been taught to care for everyone around me and learned to ignore my own inner voice. I had abandoned my most important relationship ...my relationship with myself and I didn't know what it meant to love and support 'me'.

I've worked with many people who feel empty inside. They often think something is missing in their lives and attempt to focus on life outside of themselves instead of looking inward. Generally, I hear: "I am upset because I don't have or get enough ... "

attention
love
money
approval from family
approval from friends

Does this sound familiar to you? Many of us attempt to rely too much on other people or things to meet our needs and fulfill us vs. focusing on loving and supporting ourselves and meeting our own needs. This often looks like blaming others (as well as things) for where we are at in our lives.

My life would have meaning if I had a partner.
I am stuck in this job (that doesn't fulfill me) because I have a family to feed.
She took the only man I've ever loved, or the only job I have ever wanted.
My partner won't marry me, ...he doesn't provide me with enough stimulation and I am bored.
Life is boring, and nothing excites me.

Do you ever hear yourself thinking these thoughts, or reflecting examples like these to others? I certainly have, but realize that none of these excuses cause inner emptiness. People who feel empty inside generally experience themselves as flawed. There's a core wounding and worthiness issue that stems from programmed beliefs about who we are. We lack a sense of deserving to have what we want. Often, our unnecessary fears and hostility from others cause us to come to conclusions like, "there is something seriously wrong with me. ...I am not enough". We're bad, inadequate, selfish, unlovable, un-important ...always wrong. Our wounded self operates from a core of shame and it's a powerful force.

Negative thoughts and unconscious core beliefs cause people to engage in unhealthy activities and behaviors. People use processes or substances as an addict who's attempting to fill a large dark and empty well. We cause our emptiness through our own self-judgement. We abandon ourselves through numbing our feelings or ignoring our need to eat, sleep or even go to the bathroom by staying in our head and ignoring what we feel. When we believe we're not good enough we'll turn our focus outside of ourselves and attempt to make other people responsible for loving and supporting us. We seek attention through what we wear, caretaking, niceness, over-talking or story-telling. We use sex to feel okay with ourselves but end up feeling more empty.

What are some things you do that distract you from being present to who you are and what's best for you? Have you ever found yourself using unhealthy behaviors that have become a bad habit? Process activities like anger, blame, over-shopping, over-spending, over-working, over-eating, over-exercising, computer games, email, gambling, internet, telephone, or watching too much television? What about substances like: food, sugar, alcohol, cigarettes or drugs? While these might work for some in the moment, it won't be long before the pain of separation is back. The problem with all of these choices is that they only address the symptom of inner emptiness and not the underlying cause. They are not healthy solutions.

As an adult, its important to separate yourself from negative projections from your past that have no real basis in what's true for you today. Take your power back! ...don't let remnants of negative energy (from others) run your life.

Inner emptiness is caused by a lack of connection to the love you feel inside and to spirit.

What's missing is the love coming through us and long forgotten passions that give us a sense of purpose in the world. Inner emptiness is caused by self-abandonment and not caring for, nor loving ourselves enough. It is not caused by anything or anyone outside of us. The only thing that truly fills the emptiness is Love for yourself, for others and towards something that gives you a sense of passion and a higher purpose in your life. Today you are in charge of your happiness and your destiny. Happy, people have learned to meet their own needs and to make themselves a priority.

So how do we do it?

By shifting your attention and focus inward.

Take time to get to know what's important to you by getting in touch with how you feel about things in your daily life.

Take a good look at your relationship, your friendships, what your are eating, how you're sleeping, where you work and your home environment. Notice what is reflected back to you and how you feel about it. How are these things serving you? ... and if they are not, what are you going to do to change them?

When you hear yourself ask for something you need, attend to your needs.

If you don't like going to the gym (and you're going to be watching the clock the whole time your there), ...don't go! I've been there, ...do something else. Try something new!

If you are not connected to your companies mission statement, it's slowly killing you to work there!

Feeling gloomy, perhaps it's your environment trying to share something with you. Re-paint your walls to reflect more joy, ...take the curtains down and let more light in!

Love yourself as well as others through greater self-care practices on a daily basis. Small-steps lead to big-change!

Live your life to the fullest and enjoy the process and learning that can be had from trying something completely different and a new adventure!

Greeting in Thailand vs Greeting in Zambia - How Two Different Cultures Compare

Greeting in Thailand

Greeting in Thailand vs Greeting in Zambia - How Two Different Cultures Compare

When it comes to visiting different countries it is often a good idea to familiarise yourself with the basics of communicating with the natives of the country you are planning to visit. In such scenarios it becomes beneficial to utilise translation services although learning basic greetings in a foreign language may not necessarily warrant the use of professional translation services. There are many ways in which you can pick up the basic lingo through means such as language translation apps. We have previously highlighted some useful translation apps for travellers including apps such as Google Translate and Trip Lingo which can both help in communicating in foreign languages.

Below we explore two different cultures and languages and how people generally greet each other.

Thailand

The Thai language is native to over 20 million speakers and is a second language for over 40 million people. Thailand attracts many tourists from all corners of the globe from its rich culture, beautiful beaches and friendly people many travellers often decide to stay or return after visiting Thailand. Backpackers can be seen flocking the streets of Bangkok and the famous Khao San Road located in Bangkok is perfect for affordable hour long massages less than the value of GBP 5.00. With many vibrant bars and plenty of Thai street food to choose from this is a must go place when visiting Bangkok.

So you have chosen to visit Thailand. Now how do you greet people?

In Thailand the way you greet people depends on your gender. Males and females greet differently and learning this will sure impress the locals as it shows you have taken time to appreciate the culture.

When meeting or greeting someone men say Sawatdee Krap and women say Sawatdee-Kah which both translate from Thai to English as hello. The greeting is returned with the other party repeating the same.

Whilst greeting both hands are put together in a prayer like position with the fingers extended to the chest and a slight bow with the head. The higher the hands are placed the more respect is show to the other person. Do remember to never place the tips of the fingers above the eyes as this may be a sign of disrespect.

In Thailand people are often referred to by their first name whether in a formal or informal setting. If your name is John Smith you would be referred to as Mr John. This is not to be taken as an insult or demeaning as in the west we would say Mr Smith.

Although spoken by the majority in the South East region of Asia the Thai language is not the only language spoken there. Other minority languages exist in various regions such as the Lao dialect of Isan and the Malay language most prevalent around the Thai/Malaysian border.

Zambia

In comparison to Thailand, Zambia the landlocked county located in southern Africa is home to a population of just over 16 million people. Tourists are mainly attracted to Zambia due to the countrys wildlife and natural wonders such as the Zambezi River and Victoria falls. From its beautiful resorts to friendly culture this is one place in Africa which offers beautiful safari holidays for all to enjoy.

In Zambia the most common spoken languages are Bemba and Nyanja with both languages spoken by over 60% of the population. Although English is the official language taught in schools and used in formal settings it is safe to say you will not find it hard to communicate coming from an English background. However if you would like to impress the locals by learning some basics here is how to greet in Bemba and Nyanja.

Bemba Muli-Shani meaning how are you. You would respond with Wino-Shani (pronounced weno-shaani) which means Im fine, how are you? The other person would the respond with Wino stating they are ok.

Nyanja Muli-Bwanji means how are you? You respond with Bwino-Bwanji (pronounced bweeno-bwanji) of which the other party responds with Bwino which means they are fine.

In comparison to the Thai language where different sexes use different words to greet one another in Zambian culture greeting is the same regardless of whether you are male or female. A verbal greeting is also conducted with a hand shake by both men and women.

Have you visited any other countries where greetings are different for men or women? Share with us below any greeting tips for a particular country you live in or have visited.

Great News For Folks With Nut Allergies!

This article was originally posted at http://www.apple-a-day-clinic.com/Health_and_Nutrition_Blog?m8:post=grea...

People who are allergic to one type of nut are usually told to avoid all types of tree nuts, however, this may be an unnecessary caution.
Good News for Those With Nut Allergies
Tree nuts - image from Shutterstock
Here are some nutty facts for you to consider. Nuts that we eat are called culinary nuts and they are the fruits or seeds of plants. They are known for their fat content, usually classified as "healthy fats", although not all nuts are high in fat. There are four categories of culinary nuts:

True or botanical nuts which are dry and hard-shelled. Hazelnuts, acorns, and chestnuts fall into this category.
Drupes which have fleshy fruit surrounding a stone, or pit, and contain a seed. Almonds are an example.
Gymnosperms which are naked seeds like pine nuts.
Angiosperm seeds which are unenclosed seeds within a larger fruit like peanuts.
Nuts have been consumed by humans all over the globe for thousands of years, as snacks, as garnish, and to add flavor to all kinds of dishes. Today there are eleven kinds of nuts that make up most of the nut market globally.

Almonds
Cashews
Chestnuts
Coconuts
Hazelnuts
Macadamia Nuts
Peanuts
Pecans
Pine nuts
Pistachios
Walnuts
Thats all good for those who love nuts and regularly consume them, but manypeople have nut allergies. In fact, in the U.S., approximately three million people report allergies to peanuts and tree nuts. Studies show the number of children living with peanut allergy appears to have tripled between 1997 and 2008.

Conventional wisdom says that if someone is allergic to one type of nut, they should avoid all nuts. However, in a new study conducted by the American College of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology (ACAAI), 109 patients who were allergic to nuts were tested. The patients in the study were given skin and blood tests to determine if they were allergic to nuts they had never eaten before. The tests showed that indeed, they were sensitive to these other nuts, but then they were given an oral challenge. When asked to eat small amounts of these nuts half of the participants had no adverse reaction.

The symptoms of nut allergies should be taken seriously. At the worst end of the reaction spectrum, anaphylaxis can occur, while other symptoms range from vomiting, nausea, diarrhea, pain, and itchiness. However, the idea that if youre allergic to one kind of nut, youre allergic to them all might not be as clear cut as was previously thought. In addition to highly sensitive blood tests, people with nut allergies can also consider what the experts call an oral food challenge, eating small amounts of nuts to test for reactions.

All of this could be good news for people with an allergy to one type of nut. They may be able to find other nuts to include in their diets. This is especially good news considering that tree nuts may reduce cancer risk.

Going On A Food Trip In San Juan, Puerto Rico

Your experience of a place would not be complete without a taste of its culinary offerings. In Puerto Rico, its criolla dishes are a must-try although international and fusion cuisines are also served in a lot of restaurants. Dining options run the gamut from upscale places to casual diners. The capital, San Juan, offers a wide and interesting variety of restaurants and is the perfect place for the ultimate Puerto Rican food experience.

Comida criolla or creole food refers to the local cuisine in Puerto Rico. It's a melting pot (no pun intended) of traditional Taino food, Spanish culinary influence, and African cooking. Some of the most popular criolla dishes are lechon asado (roasted pork), adobo (seasoning made of vinegar, paprika, oil, garlin, and oregano), asopoa de pollo (stewed chicken), habichuelas (rice and red beans served with meat), and sofrito (a sauce made of cilantro onion, garlic, pepper, and other seasonings and spices). Criolla cooking also features several manners of cooking plantains. There's tostones which is mashed green plantains, platanos which slightly varies from tostones in cooking style, and mofongo which is a ball of crushed plantains mixed with meat or seafood that were fried and flavored with seasonings such garlic and tomato-based sauce.

Being nestled in the abundant waters of the Caribbean, Puerto Rico certainly cannot do without seafood cuisines. The tastiest seafood dishes can be found in the coastal cities. The Caribbean lobster is one of the premier catches in restaurants although the dolphinfish and red snapper are popular as well. The most well-known seafood specialty however would probably be the conch stuffed with tomato for a fritter or served with a ceviche salad.

To further promote criolla cuisine to travelers, the government has created the Mesones Gastronomicos program. In this project, the 30 participating restaurants throughout the island will all serve traditional Puerto Rican fare. It doesn't mean though that you can only taste authentic criolla cooking in these dining places. Smaller restaurants that offer native cuisines abound in San Juan and the rest of Puerto Rico.

Other upscale restaurants specialize in what is called the Nuevo Latino cuisine, a culinary style similar to criolla but predominantly uses fruits, fish, and tubers as main ingredients with tropical marinades and dark rum sauces as primary flavors. Most ingredients in Nuevo Latino cooking are locally sourced so as to maximize the fresh flavors of the produce. Restaurants serving this cuisine are mostly found in San Juan and other bigger cities of Puerto Rico. Tourists who crave for international cuisines won't be disappointed as well. There are a lot of dining areas in San Juan that serve Italian, French, Arabian, Mexican, American, German, and Latin American dishes.

Along with the sumptuous food, another major part of Puerto Rican food is the beverage. This Caribbean island is also known for its strong drinks, its national beverage being the rum. There are about 20 different varieties of rum here. Puerto Rican coffee also packs a strong punch. It can be served as espresso, sweetened or with milk which is known as cafe con leche. If you're looking for a milder drink, you can try coco frio which is served on a chilled coconut and a selection of fresh fruit juices.

Budget meals in Puerto Rico usually range from $5 to $15 while higher end dining can go up to $35. Upscale restaurants often require a dress code such as collared shirts for men and stylish apparel for women while the most expensive dining venues are usually black tie. Making a reservation is recommended especially from mid-November to April when tourists are usually flocking to Puerto Rico.

Advantages of Glass Bottles

There are in general three basic advantages of using a glass container which is mentioned below:

Gas Stoves For Sale

Gas stoves are greatly preferred for homes and restaurants. Gas stoves use flammable gases such as liquefied petroleum gas, propane natural gas and butane. In gas stoves the heat distribution is more even as compared to electrical stoves or wood stoves. Moreover the heat precision is also much more exact in gas stoves as compared to others. For instance if you lower the heat level on a gas stove then the change is in the amount of heat which is immediate and precise.

Moreover a creates less heat as compared to other stoves. However this doesn't mean that gas stoves cook the food slow and late; it just means that your kitchen will be cooler. If you are using a gas stove then the surface flatness is also not important since the heat comes from the flare. Furthermore gas stoves produce a moist heat which can be good when cooking certain food items such as roasts and casseroles. Gas stoves may sometimes have gas leaks so you should be cautious if you are using a gas stove at your home.

Most chefs will agree that a gas burning stove is far better to use in the kitchen than any other kind. That is because a gas burning stove heats up quickly and can cook your food properly. There are so many different types of gas stoves too. You can look for natural gas stoves at various market places. They have a great selection of natural gas stoves. They often go on sale as well! That is something to take advantage of because cheap gas stoves are sometimes hard to find.

Gas stoves offer easy controllability to the users. They are easy to operate at different temperature which makes them suitable for various cooking purposes. Also with gas stoves you can easily recognize how much your pans and pots are heated by looking at the intensity of the flame.

You can also look at gas stoves in a special kitchen store. These types of stores usually have a very wide selection of price ranges, sizes as well as brands of gas stoves. If you wish to have relatively cheap ones; you can take a look at used gas stove for sale markets. They always have used gas stoves and antique gas stoves for sale that are useless to previous users or from those who find them inconvenient.

Gas stoves as the name suggests are operated by gases and so do not require electricity. So if there is any power outage you can cook food without any worries. The are generally cheaper to use as compared to electric stoves. Although gas stoves are expensive to purchase and install they are cheaper than other stoves in a long run.

Gain Weight the Healthy Way

World over obesity has been classified as a major problem but not much has been spoken about individuals struggling to gain weight.  Being obese or underweight are two sides of the same coin as both result from an unbalanced diet. In medical terms, a person whose body mass index (BMI) is above 30 is considered obese and below 18.5 is considered underweight. While most people are well aware of harmful effects of being overweight, they simply overlook or are unaware of the health risks associated with being underweight.

The harmful effects of being underweight include impairment of immune function, increased susceptibility to infections. osteoporosis, fractures, fertility problems and dementia. It would not be wrong to say that being underweight is medically just as unhealthy as being obese. Hence, it is imperative for each individual to maintain a healthy body weight and lifestyle. Healthy body weight apart from reducing the susceptibility to various diseases, also translates into feeling more energetic and being able to do more activities.

Individuals more often than not associate being underweight with less than optimal food intake i.e. getting less energy via food or being over active. But weight gain is just as hard as losing weight. One of the first steps is to identify the underlying cause of being underweight i.e. it may be due to hypothyroidism which needs to be treated. Post understanding the underlying cause, one needs to list down the daily major activities and look into the calorie intake. This is what your nearby nutritionists can help you with. In this article I have tried to list down some generic diet and lifestyle tips which can be easily incorporated by anyone in his/ her daily routine.

Below are some easy, well established and effective tips to gain weight:

1. Consume more calories

As a rough estimate, if you wish to gain weight steadily, you should aim to eat 300-500 calories more than you burn each day. And if you wish to gain weight fast, you should aim to consume 700-1000 calories more than you burn. Further, you should be having at least 3 meals a day with the right combination of protein, carbs and fat in each meal.

2. Increase your sleep time

Your body rests and absorbs nutrients while spending minimum calories when you sleep. Hence, you should aim to get 8-9 hours of sleep each day to ensure all the calories consumed are stored in your body.

3. Have protein rich and energy dense diet

You need to make sure that you gain healthy amount of muscle mass and subcutaneous fat and not just unhealthy belly fat.  As your muscles are made up of protein, you should aim to intake 1.5-2.2 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight. Protein rich foods include meats, fish, eggs, dairy products and whey protein (in case you are unable to include enough proteins in diet). Further, you should aim to include energy dense foods in your diet. Such foods include nuts, dried fruit, cream, potatoes, dark chocolate, avocados and peanut butter.

4. Hit the gym

While it may seem counter intuitive to burn your calories by hitting the gym, lifting weights at least 2-3 times a week will ensure that the excess calories result in muscle mass and not just body fat.

Apart from following above tips, you need to follow a diet plan that has been customised as per your dietary preferences, lifestyle, medical history, metabolism and body type. Meet your nearest nutritionist to get a customized diet plan. This along with continuous tracking of results will help you in achieving your ideal body weight in minimum time and in a sustainable manner.

Wish you all the best for your weight gain journey!

Fusion Foods Add Character and Variety

Fusion Foods Add Character and Variety

Fusion Foods Add Character and Variety

Working in a restaurant is hard work. Every single job from the front of the house hostess to the dishwasher in the kitchen will work very hard and also under pretty stressful conditions. When the restaurant gets busy, there is nothing you can do but kick it in high gear and get your job done. People who have never worked in a restaurant have no idea what it is like to work in such a fast paced environment. It really is a completely different experience than most other jobs. From fusion restaurants to fast food, the clock is always ticking and the customer is always right.

Your local mom and pop's restaurant may have a little different business structure than your huge corporate chain restaurants, but they all do the same thing: serve hot food to hungry customers. This may seem like an easy thing to do, but dealing with the public (much less the hungry public) is no easy task at all. Tempers will flare and things may not always go as planned, but having patience and a little bit of understanding will go a long way in this industry. Your local fusion restaurant may not have the volume of your huge corporate chain, but both businesses should equally care about their customers and making sure they are as happy and full as can be.

When you walk into your local fusion restaurant, you may not know what to expect. Fusion food is slowly taking over our nation, but has definitely been around for quite some time. Back when Europeans were coming to America, they often shared cooking ideas with the natives and with one another. There were so many different cultures in one confined area that they really had no choice in exploring other types of cuisine. This led to a lot of creative cooking combining ingredients never before used. There is nothing wrong with having a great variety of options in your recipe book! Fusion restaurants are based on this same principle of expanding their culinary experience and chefs all over the country (and world) are constantly looking into new and exciting flavor ideas to add to their menus. People love having options and what better way to accomplish that by starting up a fusion restaurant combining multiple styles of cooking?

Head to Appleton, Wisconsin for some of the best fusion food you have ever tasted! You will not be disappointed at all when you experience everything this little river town has to offer.

Four Key strategies for a structure QA process

Four Key strategies for a structure QA process

Four Key strategies for a structure QA process

A tester's responsibility is developing alongside the adjustment in industry innovation and a move toward a coordinated strategy. This change opens unexplored, energizing, and testing open doors for analyzers all over the place. How about we take a gander at what this move has implied for testing professionals through the viewpoint of my own understanding.

The traditional Way: Find only the Bugs

My underlying years as a QA tester were short on basic considering. Each morning the testing group was given a rundown of utilization to survey. The allocated asset would introduce the applications and endeavor to break the usefulness.

Our execution audits were straightforward: The more bugs we found, the more brilliant we were! There was no idea, no methodology, no inspiration. Our respites were exchanges loaded with the quantity of bugs each of us discovered as opposed to the nature of those bugs.

That made them think. What esteem did we include? Would it be advisable for us to simply test to discover bugs? I had an excessive number of inquiries without answers.

Building a QA Process

My next activity was an existence changer. As a component of testing a usefulness, the QA group would likewise investigate, dissect the stack follow, and give the underlying driver of the issue to the engineers. It was reviving to see everybody work together as one group with a typical reason.

I understood that an analyzer was not an unimportant individual endeavoring to break the instrument, however more a cooperative person adding to the general exertion. As the analyzers turned into various groups, we organized ceaseless change of robotization and top to bottom learning about every segment. I built up an entirely unexpected point of view about QA and a newly discovered regard about what amount included esteem this part brings.

In my next position, when I began I was quickly matched with a QA planner. I didn't know then that this mentorship would have a significant and enduring effect on me. I understood the significance of following a more organized way to deal with QA. With the assistance of the QA modeler, I sharpened and consummated four methodologies toward an enhanced QA process.

1. Survey Design and Architectural Documents

It's dependably a smart thought to run in with however much learning about the item under test as could reasonably be expected If plan and building archives are accessible, give them a read. You would be flabbergasted by the amount more you comprehend the item's design, the incorporated segments, and the stream of information than you would from testing alone. Take notes and attract a parallel to what you are trying and how the framework interfaces.

2. Research Past Defects

The past advises the present. It is critical to know the unsafe zones and the most vulnerable usefulness that could break your application with each change. That sort of information could originate from the historical backdrop of imperfections.

Lead some exploration on your imperfection instrument and examine past deformities detailed. Any anticipated example that left this investigation would enable you to grow more robotization around those territories. On the off chance that there are client detailed imperfections, investigate those as well. This activity will enable you to settle on choices about the test procedure for different discharges.

3. Triage the Defects

QA finds an issue, so you report it. However, your activity isn't done you can go well beyond by asking some extra essential inquiries. Is there something else you could have done? Do you know why this issue happened, what caused the issue, and which submit may have been the issue?

This isn't only the activity of the engineers. You approach the log record, submits, and the code, so you can do some burrowing to help settle issues. Contingent upon how specialized you will be, you can dive as deep as you prefer. In any case, on an abnormal state, take a gander at the exemptions in the log. Is it an invalid pointer special case? Does that need to do with particular information or some succession of steps?

Limit the issue and begin a discussion with the designer. They will value the definite data and research.

4. Go past the Reported Issue

Don't simply concentrate on testing usefulness. Consider the back-end and front-end communications of your application, as well.

For example, as you test screen the logs, the application may work of course however with a few mistakes happening in the back end. Are the logs point by point enough? Are the special cases being taken care of? For program collaborations, open the designer devices in your program and screen the system segment. Is the reaction taking longer than it should? Is there any demand that isn't required while getting to a few sections of your application?

Every one of these inquiries enable the analyzer to go well beyond what they are "doled out" to test. They likewise support talks with the item proprietor and engineers, who might not have considered some of these situations.

It is crucial to be a light-footed attitude when looking for item holes and the answers for filling them. One key lesson in testing is being proactive rather than receptive. The bugs you reveal may end up being issues or specialized stories, however by having that answer, you have anticipated blunders that may have gone unnoticed or come up as more significant issues considerably later.

Conclusion

Being a product analyzer is never again pretty much discovering bugs and endeavoring to break the application. It is about persistent change, characterizing an unmistakable test technique, and going that additional mile to enhance quality. Following a steady, organized way to deal with QA will enable you to gain more learning about the item you are trying, make inquiries you generally might not have thought of, and turn into a genuine proprietor of value.

Four Excellent and Innovative Tips to Spice up Your Catering Events

Four Excellent and Innovative Tips to Spice up Your Catering Events

Image source: https://wwcdn.weddingwire.com/vendor/10001_15000/10231/thumbnails/800x800_1328724283875-MiniTahitianVanillaBeanCremeBruleeHazelnutChocolateSoupBeteNoir.jpg

Four Excellent and Innovative Tips to Spice up Your Catering Events

In any event, the food of which you serve your guests is paramount to the overall success of the meal. Being an integral part of the catering aspect, it is only natural for prospective clients to be a little meticulous when it comes to selecting their potential caterers. However, with so many factors and elements involved in a single event, it can be easy to overlook the quality of the food you are servingmuch less the presentation of which it is served. Although it is understandable to get caught up in the flurry of activity when it comes to planning an event, you should not skimp out on your attendees dining experience. As an event planner, you should endeavor to make every aspect of your event memorable. With this in mind, it is imperative that you make choices that would make a significant impact on attendees to make them more receptive to attending your next event and giving a good feedback to the one they are attending. Your catering menu packages do not necessarily have to be fancy, but you do have to be creative and innovative in your strategy.

Here are some of the ways you can do just that:

Provide attendee-requested options

If you want your attendees to like your food, then it is only natural for you to serve what they want. In this regard, you and your team should have a customizable registration option where your attendees can select the kind of food or choose a specific food they would want to have the day of the event. Alternatively, if you host several events in a year, simply create a survey which your attendees should complete before leaving and ask the type of catering options that they want. In this way, you can be assured that the food you serve would be well-received by your guests.

Choose Unique Food

Commonplace and average food options are the norm and they do not add much to the overall experience of the event. An event that stands out does things extraordinarily and by extension, that would mean serving food options that are anything but ordinary. Your guests can probably get a serving of carbonara pasta in most restaurants and they have certainly had their fair share of deviled eggs hors doeuvres by now. So, instead of serving these familiar fares, try exotic epicurean delights that inject a bit of fun into the dining experience. You have an array of food options, simply research the web and check for innovative and ingenious catering ideas.

Partner with a famous chef

An excellent way to make your mark in both the events planning realm and catering world is to partner with a revered and well-known celebrity or famous chef. If your budget allows it, simply team up with one of the famous chefs of your city or even the ones from Celebrity Chef Network. If your event boasts big names such as Anthony Bourdain, Bobby Flay, and Giada Delaurentis, you are sure to draw in more peoplefood enthusiasts and cooks alike.

Match your meals to the event location

If you have a unique event location, exploit that by offering your guests matching catering options. Alternatively, you can simply choose a food theme and have a recurring ingredient throughout all the meals. Having a theme for your food catering gives your food servings and options a sense of cohesion and as a result, you would be able to have fun toying with your menu. Simply choose a single ingredient and make this the recurring ingredient with your food servings such as serving bacon appetizers, bacon desserts, and even bacon cocktails! Your options are limitless, you just need to think out of the box.

For an unmatched dining experience!

Interior designer Sumessh Menon uses his penchant for materiality to augment culinary illusion that is the signature of the modernist gourmet diner, Farzi caf, Mumbai
That Indians are a highly adaptable race is being recurrently proven with the number of fusion foods that seem only to be multiplying by the minute. Fine-dines, lounges and small-time cubby-hole eateries serving dishy gourmet cuisine are pepping up the eating-out scene like never before.

Elements of molecular gastronomy, modern techniques, customized equipment and culinary illusion that constitute table theatrics transform flavours for a unique, high energy, modernist and genre-defining Indian dining experience that is Farzi caf. Farzi as the name suggests refers to illusion; and this caf-style eatery with its pocket-friendly price-points and fusion interiors aims at creating an unparalleled culinary experience.

Sustaining the illusion-creating thematic, the restaurant has a charming European architecture-inspired pristine white, balcony-style faade that opens indoors via a double-height volume to a dual-storeyed diner. Complete with fluted pseudo columns and arched windows, one sees a sharp contrast of textures and styles blended together perfectly in the large double-heighted space.

Playing with the verticality of the volume, is a delightfully earthy-looking terracotta patterned wall juxtaposed against a stunningly contrasting 22 ft. high backlit bar display that immediately draws the eye to its splendid and unique laser-cut design that finds its complement on the backlit risers of the grand staircase.

The imposing bar counter is uniquely shaped with two cylindrical edges and a beautiful red travertine countertop that form a sturdy backdrop to the milieu, scattered with seating options in varying styles: sofas, high chairs, and regular chairs on both lower and upper levels.

A vast backlit ceiling installation in chevron pattern shrouds the whole place in a spectacular warm, diffused light, setting the mood of the eatery as floor-to-slab laser-cut backlit paneling laid out angularly stuns with a European-style art print on the upper deck; and a similar screen panel regales on the lower floor with beautiful amber coloured tinted glass designs in a circular pattern.

Earthy tones of warm red and honeyed amber lend to the uniquely eclectic colour palette that blends hints of polished European style with raw and earthy vernacular allure.

As is his signature style, Sumessh Menon lives up to creating an idiosyncratic, chic, modern sensory experience in a high energy ambience waiting for the ultimate finishing touch of the farzi gastronome! visit indiaartndesign.com to view the images of this restaurant.

Professional food critics tend to have very sensitive, broad palates. However, they dont acquire this overnight.

To determine whether something is good or bad, you need to develop your palate. Therefore, when going to any restaurant, always try something completely new. Eventually, youll have plenty of food experiences you can refer back to.

You also need to learn to identify the ingredients featured in each dish as well as how the chef prepared them. This will allow you to write in more detail.

Consider Your Responsibilities

Being a critic comes with a lot more responsibilities than being an average food blogger.

Consider that your primary role as a critic is to provide unbiased reviews for your readers. To accomplish this, put yourself in the shoes of your reader, and think about what they would find helpful. Spend more time describing flavors instead of a beverage label design that caught your eye.

Going further, you also have a responsibility to communicate effectively. Therefore, avoid using culinary terms that your readers wont understand. Write to your readers in second-person, and be as descriptive as possible.

Blog Often

To start things off, you can send your food reviews to newspapers, websites, and magazines. That said, blogging is the best easiest way to publish your work. If youre already a blogger, you may have a head start in building a following.

However, if you want to become a successful food critic, you have to post regularly. Blogging 16 times per month will net you four times as much traffic as blogging only 4 times per month.

Final Thoughts On Going From Food Writer To Food Critic

Following the steps above will help make your transition smoother. But there are a couple more tips to keep in mind.

First, try to focus on only a handful of dishes at a time when writing your reviews. This will improve the readability of your articles.

Also, do your best to steer clear of superlatives such as best and worst. These can become repetitive. Instead, compare and contrast dishes to those you ate at other establishments.

Vietnams former royal capital, Hue, is paradise for foodies. Phan Nu Yen Chi resorts on Hues unique culinary culture.
Along with its famed architecture and romantic riverside setting, Vietnams former royal capital, Hue, is known for its exquisite cuisine. With mountains, the coast and the Perfume River delta lying nearby, Hue has access to an impressive hot and humid climate of Vietnams South meets the seasonal climate of the North. Fresh and diverse ingredients have contributed to Hues unique cuisine.

In terms of culture Hue is a place of meeting and exchange. Vietnams culture took root around the Hong River and The Ma River in northern Vietnam. As they moved south, Vietnamese people were influenced by the cultures that they encountered en route, including those of the Chams, the Khmer, other Southeast Asian peoples, and Chinese immigrants.

At the start of the 17th century Hue arose a major Vietnamese center in the South. It attracted talented people from far and wide, including excellent chefs. From the late 18th century, Hue was the capital of the Tay Son and Nguyen Dynasties. As such, it was home to brilliant scholars, artisans.

During this period, Hue cuisine was elevated onto an art form. To this day, Hue remains deservedly proud of its culinary culture. Only in Hue can one find poems about the 100 dishes menu, created by a first lady in the 19th century. In 1927, Hue became the first city in Vietnam to found a Feminine Domestic Work Association. The citys Dong Khanh girls school gained a reputation as the most prestigious school for young aristocratic women in the country.

Its been said that Vietnamese cuisine is comprised of around 1,700 dishes. Of these, 1, 300 hail from Hue. Dishes include those designed for commoners, royalty and the citys large vegetarian Buddhist population.

Royal Dining
The royal dishes arose out of popular meals that were refined with better ingredients and more elaborate means of preparation. As well as being tasty, dishes served at the court had to be healthy. Food was used to treat medical conditions and boost the royals vitality. For this reason, although each royal dish was made by a specialized chef, preparations were overseen by the Royal Kitchen and the Royal Medical Service.

Historical documents reveal that each royal meal consisted of 50 dishes. At parties, hundreds of dishes were served.

Along with fancy and intriguingly named dishes like nem cong (Peacock Sour Mixed Meat), cha phuong (Phoenix Mixed Meat) and bat buu (Eight Flavor Dish), Royals ate dishes that were also enjoyed by commoners, such as braised goby, sticky rice cooked with split peas, pickled scallions, sweet and sour soups, and leaf cakes.

Uncommonly Good
Indeed, Hues folk cuisine shares many similarities with the fare once enjoyed by aristocrats, both in terms of diversity and attention to presentation. People are often surprised to learn that an ordinary meal in Hue can comprise ten different dishes. More astonishing still, this tradition dates back over 200 years to when Hue was the most important urban center in Cochin China

To this day, popular snacks in Hue are made with a high degree of sophistication. For example, locals enjoy ten types of salt: muoi sa (citronella salt); muoi ot (chili salt); muoi thit (shredded salt); muoi me (mixture of sesame and salt); muoi dau (terrified bean salt), muoi tieu (pepper and salt); muoi khe (Carrabolla salt); muoi ruoc (mixture of tiny shrimp past and salt) and muoi suon (mixture of pork flank meat and salt). When it comes to types of che (sweet pudding) and chao (rice gruel), there are too many varieties to count.

Buddhist Fare
Originally a Zen capital, Hue boats hundreds of pagodas and thousands of monks and nuns. Buddhism had a profound influence on both commoners and royals in Hue. The emperors, lords, and mandarins always ate vegetarian food before performing heaven and earth sacrifices.

Since most aristocratic ladies were Buddhist, vegetarian food was a focus. Chefs became very creative in their use of a material, cooking methods and presentation. To this day, visitors are amazed by the artful dishes served in a royal style vegetarian banquet. Meat-heavy favorites like chan gio ham (stewed pork-pie) and ga xe phay (boiled chicken) are recreated using rice, sesame seeds, soy beans and vegetables.

Famous Chefs in History

Famous Chefs in History

Famous Chefs in History

Because of the French domination of the culinary scene since time began (or so it seems, anyway), it stands to reason the most famous chefs in history are - what else? - French, with the exception of one American woman (discussed later), who was, nevertheless, trained in classical French cooking.

Known as the "King of Chefs and the Chef of Kings," Antoine Careme went from being an abandoned child left at the door of a restrauteur in 18th century Paris, to become the father of "haute cuisine" - the high art of French cooking - in the early 19th century. Chef to then-world movers and shakers such as diplomat Talleyrand-Perigord, the future King George IV, Czar Alexander I, and the powerful banker James Rothschild, Careme is noted for his voluminous writings on cooking, including the famed L'Art de la Cuisine Francaise (The Art of French Cooking), a five-volume masterpiece on menu planning, table settings, hundreds of recipes, and a history of French cooking.

Another Frenchman, George Auguste Escoffier, bridged the 19th and 20th centuries with a modernization of Careme's elaborate cuisine by ingenious simplification of it. Escoffier lent his talents as a chef to open the Ritz and Carlton hotels with partner Cesar Ritz, and then went on to wow such illustrious passengers as Kaiser William II of Germany on the German liner Imperator. Besides being known for such famous treats at Peach Melba, created for Australian singer Nellie Melba in 1893, Escoffier penned numerous volumes on cooking and was largely instrumental in the betterment of conditions within commercial kitchens. A stickler for cleanliness, he demanded the same from his workers and forbade swearing or any type of violence, which at the time, was common as apprentices and other help were routinely beaten by older staff.

Charles Ranhofer, the son of a restrauteur and the grandson of a chef, goes down in the annals of great chefs as the first French chef to bring the grandeur of his country's cuisine to America. Noted primarily as the head chef of New York City's famed Delmonico's restaurant, Ranhofer ran its kitchens for nearly 34 years. Serving such luminaries as President Andrew Johnson, President U.S. Grant, Charles Dickens, and a host of foreign dignitaries, Ranhofer created such culinary distinctions as Lobster Newburg and Baked Alaska, among many others. He also wrote "one of the most complete treatises of its kind," according to the New York Times in praise of his book, The Epicurean, published in 1894.

A discourse on famous historical chefs would not be complete without the inclusion of one of the most gifted chefs of all time: an American woman named Julia Child. Born to a prominent California family, Child did not begin to cook until the age of 34. It was after she moved with her husband to France that she had her grand epiphany: Good food is more than roast beef and mashed potatoes. She flung herself headlong into an education at the esteemed Cordon Bleu cooking school in Paris and later wrote Mastering the Art of French Cooking with two partners. Child went on to become the first "celebrity chef" with more books, television programs, newspaper columns, and magazine articles. She brought exquisite French cuisine to America as much with her "have-a-good-time" attitude toward cooking as she did with her talent and expertise.

To all these great chefs, we owe a debt for their giftedness and tireless contributions that have truly turned cooking into an art form. It does make one wonder, however, if ever the temptation arose with any of them to ever dine secretly on a lowly peanut butter and jelly sandwich or to toast the evening with Kool-Aid and crackers. We'll never know, but we'll surely speculate - as we take another bite of quiche Lorraine.
