How Air Hostess Training Can Help You

To become an air hostess is a hidden dream of every girl during her growing times. And why wouldnt it be. This career definitely has many reasons to attract the young and beautiful females, as it is glamorous, well-paying, gives them an opportunity to move around and many other benefits that follow.

This sector has a lot to offer its aspirants. One does not only get the chance to be hospitable but also learns to be polite and courteous to other people, which is definitely an incentive along with other advantages.

Though there is no basic education required to become a proficient air hostess or a flight steward, one can always choose to join an Air Hostess Training Institute. In fact, till sometime back, all those girls who were good looking, confident and intelligent, could easily become an air hostess with a reputed airline. But things have changed now, many new institutes have come which train and teach aspiring air hostesses and flight stewards.

But the basic element of good looks and intelligence still remains. Being an air hostess or a flight steward is obviously very different from becoming a pilot. The common responsibility of all of them is to take utmost care of their passengers. The basic difference is that a pilot has to take care of their lives with his flying skills and an air hostess has to make sure that the passengers enjoy their beautiful journey comfortably.

During flying, if there is any crisis, it is an Air Hostess/flight steward, who plays a significant role in keeping the passenger calm and patient and helping them cope with the situation in the best manner possible. So all this in turn makes the job of an air hostess or a flight steward full of responsibility.

Besides that, this job is a fairly demanding job and requires stamina, skills, patience and an ability to smile through trying times, the payoffs are considerable. The starting salaries of air hostess working in a domestic airline range from Rs 15,000 to Rs 25,000 gross per month depending on the airline and the candidate, going up to Rs 4 lakh for senior staff. Whereas, in foreign airlines the starting salary of a candidate is Rs 15,000-40,000 and Rs 8 lakh for experienced and senior staff.

Hourglass and Sand Timers

Hourglass and Sand Timers

The hourglass also known as a sandglass, sand timer or sand clock is only about seven hundred years old. The sand flows within an individually handcrafted mouth-blown glass chamber and is accurate to within 60 seconds per hour which is quite remarkable for a 14th century technology. No batteries or winding required.

The hourglass is similer to the water clock. Both depend on a medium flowing out through a hole. But the hourglass has its own technological personality. It's far simpler and cheaper than the mechanical clock or the earlier water clock. Resetting it after it runs down is very simply, just turn it over. The only downside, a short-term timepiece. Its accuracy isn't bad once you solve some problems. A problem in early hourglasses was to find a free-flowing material that doesn't absorb water on a humid day and clog up. You can't load just any old sand into it.

Hourglasses were originally used on ships as early as the 11th century as a way of measuring time and speed at sea. They were one of the first reusable, dependable and reasonably accurate methods of measuring time. In the 16th century, hourglasses were used in churches to measure sermon lengths and in factories to calculate time for manufacturing procedures. They were later used within the culinary industry to measure baking and cooking times. They ran neither long enough nor accurately enough to be of much use in marine navigation. They were a poor person's timepiece. The hourglass became a metaphor for the running-out-of-sands we all inevitably face. It became, and it remains, a universal symbol of death.

Today the glass chamber is made of sturdy glass with a reinforced center funnel. The sand is screened to remove particles too large and too small, then baked completely dry to eliminate any chance for condensation to form. The sand is measured into the glass in a controlled environment, baked a second time, and capped. They are made of wood and brass that are very decorative. The hourglass is an enduring and beautiful work of art that will provide a silent, accurate, and unobtrusive channel of time. Watching the thin strands of sand create much the same effect as watching the flames of a warm fire. An Hourglass will add a soothing, meditative focal point to any office, school, or home setting. This is an ideal gift for teachers, professionals, or yourself. Also many people collect them.

History ofBuffets, Infusions Restaurant and The Okanagan College Culinary Arts Buffets

History ofBuffets, Infusions Restaurant and The Okanagan College Culinary Arts Buffets

It was the 18th century, and in France the modern day buffet was developed which soon spread across Europe. Serving a meal to oneself has a long and interesting history, but the original term buffet referred to the sideboard where all the various types of food was served, although, eventually this style of eating was converted to modern day buffets.
The second half of the 19th century, especially in the English speaking world, buffets became extremely popular for meals. Lunch, or an informal luncheon which was originally a very light meal that was consumed between breakfast and dinner, and often replacing dinners. Buffets came in two styles of a meal, and started at the fashionable hour of "One O'Clock". The "buffet" luncheon, and at which time the dining guests would stand while they eat their meal, or the luncheon served at small tables where the dining guests would be seated.

All buffet food must be eaten with a fork or a spoon, and the knife was strictly forbidden at these "buffet" lunches. The essentials of a buffet luncheon are covered by these following dishes. All types of beverages including coffee, tea, punch or chocolate which was poured from urns, or brought from a pantry on trays in filled cups. Hot entres of various types which was served on a platter or from a chafing dish, and preceded by hot bouillon. Cold entres such as salads, lobster, salmon, shrimp, crab, potatoes, chicken, and served with heavy dressings. Hot rolls, and sandwiches that were wafer-cut in size such as tomato and lettuce, ham, and many others. Plus desserts such as small cakes and pastries.

Buffets are very popular with people today, because, it offers plenty of food variety at a reasonable price. People with large appetites can feed themselves without waiting for their food to be served. Especially families with children, this is often a very important point when dining out. Buffets are definitely a nice dining alternative to conventional restaurants, because people can get the foods they want in the quantities they like. People can create their own dishes with more meat, less vegetables and fewer side dishes, plus creating salads with appealing ingredients that they enjoy. Buffets offer people the opportunity to try new types of food that they would not order off a menu in a restaurant.

Guests were treated to a "Five Course" gourmet dinner with special Okanagan Valley wines to accompany each course.

Infusions and the Okanagan College Culinary Arts Bakery had a spectacular dessert buffet for this special night with freshly made gourmet desserts, and with a delicious assortment of as many freshly made Pastries, Cakes, and Chocolate Confections as a person could possibly eat after the meal.

The Culinary Arts buffet offered a HUGH selection of seafood and seafood platters that were served at the buffet from Sushi Rolls, Dim Sum, Salmon, Coulibiac of Halibut to Shark and Lobster. Dishes containing Gratin of Potatoes & Yams, many types of Pasta with Grilled and Glazed Vegetables, and of course the Roast Beef and Beef Tenderloin, and ALL for $15.00!

History of Italian Cuisine

History of Italian Cuisine

Most people will recognize pasta and pizza - two of the most popular dishes that form part of the Italian cuisine. However, Italian cuisine has a lot more to offer than just these two well known dishes. Most importantly, Italian cuisine also has a rich and tempting history - just like the different dishes that form part of its offerings.

All over the land of Italy, all the Italians always maintain a distinctive cooking habit or style that shines in their eating habits, their styles of preparing a meal and the way they select local ingredients. Right from the pre-Roman era till date the Italian food history has gone through a considerable change.

In the ancient times, the preparation of food was very important. One of the ancient and surviving cookbooks is known as the Apicus. The Apicus dates right back to 1st century BC.

It was after the downfall of the Romans that the spread of the Italian cuisine began. Individual states started to uphold their separate traditions and identities. Every region started its own special and unique method of cooking, from the very basic preparation of the meatballs to characteristic varieties of cheeses and also the wine produced in any locale.

For example Northern states developed the Tuscan beef, on the other hand black truffles was prepared in Marches, and the very famous Mozzarella and Provolone cheeses developed in South, simultaneously being the host of a lot of citrus fruits.

There were varieties in bread, pasta, and other different food preparation methodologies according to the region. The eating habits were also a total contrast as the people in Southern Italy loved hard-boiled spaghetti, but those from the North preferred the soft-egg noodles.

Different cities started to become famous for their specialties like Milan for Risotto, Bologna for Tortellini, while Naples for Pizzas.

In these past few years the Italian cuisine evolved greatly due to the wealth from outside influences which added a flavor and an appeal. The ancient Greeks with their wealthy imports from various places added an exotic ingredients and spices to the Italian cuisine.
The Coastal regions of Italy are popular for delicious seafood and fish. For example, while Sardinia has a traditional style of cooking that includes foods such as Swordfish, anchovies, lobster, sardines, etc, Sicily has heavy North-African influences.

Even today the varieties in Italian cooking show distinctions between the northern and the southern style of cooking. Each and every region carries their traditions reflecting deeply in history. This wonderful culture with never-ending preparations of appetizers, main-courses, and desserts that will always continue to tempt our taste buds.

History of French Cuisine, The French Revolution and Famous French Culinary Chefs

French cuisine was prepared by ill tempered French chefs, who were very picky about their food, and these French chefs incorporated overly rich sauces to accompany the food, plus the preparation of food dishes had to be perfect. However, todays preference is more about the taste and texture of the food. French chefs of today produce cuisine that is artistically arranged on the plate, and contains a wonderful mix of smells, textures, and flavors. France's rich cuisine and their constant love affair with food is one of modern France's greatest treasures.
French cuisine has evolved from many centuries of political change and social events. In the Middle Ages chefs like Guillaume Tirel, alias Taillevent was a cook to the Court of France at the time of the first Valois kings. Guillaume Tirel was head chef or queux to Philip VI and later to the Dauphin de Viennois, who prepared lavish banquets for the upper class with ornate and heavily seasoned food. Le Viandier is a famous cookery book which Guillaume Tirel wrote which was influential on French cuisine and medieval cuisine in northern France.

In the year 1789, "The French Revolution" era, and lasting over 10 years was a period of political and social upheaval in the history of France. French cusine evolved towards fewer spices and increased usage of many types of herbs. These refined techniques in French cooking beginning with Franois Pierre La Varenne, author of "Le cuisinier franois", the founding text of modern French cuisine, and which established the foundation for what would become one of the basics of French cooking. French cusine developed further with the famous chef and personality of Napoleon Bonaparte, which influenced the culinary future of France, plus other dignitaries, Marie-Antoine Carme.

Antoine Careme well known as the "King of Chefs and the Chef of Kings," and in Paris, in the 19th century, Careme became the father of "haute cuisine" which is the high art of French cooking. French statesman and Diplomat Talleyrand-Perigord, the future King George IV, Czar Alexander I, and James Rothschild a powerful banker, Careme was the Chef to these world leaders and aristocrats. Careme is well known for his famous writings on the art of cooking, included in the writings is the famed "The Art of French Cooking" or L'Art de la Cuisine Francaise. The masterpiece contains volumes of information and knowledge on the history of French cooking.

French cuisine was codified by George Auguste Escoffier, who in the late 19th and early 20th century modernized Careme's elaborate style of cuisine by his ingenious simplification of the food, and Escoffier became the modern version of haute cuisine. Haute cuisine meaning "high cooking" in French or grande cuisine. In North America, haute cuisine refers to the cooking of the grand restaurants and hotels, which is characterised by elaborate preparations and presentations. Until the 1970s, this cuisine was defined by the French phrase cuisine classique, and was supplanted by nouvelle cuisine. Today, haute cuisine is not defined by any particular style.

However, George Auguste Escoffiers culinary work was missing a lot of the regional character of foods and cooking that was found in the provinces of France. Gastro Tourism and the Guide Michelin or Le Guide Michelin, which is a series of annual guide books published by Michelin for over a dozen countries, helped bring people of France and the world to the countryside of France during the 20th century and beyond, to experience the taste and smells of this rich bourgeois and peasant cuisine of France.

In the southwestern part of France, Basque cuisine, referring to the typical food dishes and cooking ingredients of the cuisine of the Basque people, and has been a large influence over this type of French cuisine. The food dishes and ingredients various from region to region, but many significant regional dishes have become both regional and national. Today, various dishes that once were regional, however, have proliferated in different variations across France. Wine and cheese are also HUGH parts of the French cuisine, regionally and nationally, playing different roles both with their many variations and the Vins dAppellation dOrigine Contrle, or AOC wines, officially recognized. (regulated appellation)

Around the world centuries later, among connoisseurs of French cuisine, gourmet innovations which have been brought forth by both the French Revolution and the glorious conquests of "Empereur des Francais Napolon I", have not lost their appeal and popularity, and Napolon Pastries as an example, Napolons are served today. Herbal Remedies To Treat Acid Indigestion

Acid indigestion can be treated with herbal remedies instead of antacids. Herbal remedies, in general, are better options as they are less harmful to our body. It is a reality that indigestion is becoming a pervasive problem in modern times. There are indications everywhere. The shelves of supermarket and drugstores are well stocked with antacids. Television and online commercials have also been heavily promoting antacids as the cure for heartburn.

For proper digestion, you need to relax your stomach. If you eat too quickly or eat excessively, you are likely to suffer from indigestion. Consuming too much food at one sitting burdens the stomach. Its digestive juices get diluted making them function less efficiently. Thus, you may taste the stomach acid and experience pain.

You can try herbal remedies for acid indigestion as safer alternatives to antacids. Herbal remedies have virtually little or no toxicity as compared to manufactured over-the-counter medicines. These does not mean that herbs are not potent at all; if fact, some of them are. Hence, before using any natural remedies, you should check with your physician that it is safe for you to do so. Here are some known herbal remedies for acid indigestion:

Slippery Elm. This herb was used by early folk healers as a digestive tonic and for treatment of acid indigestion and dysentery. The relief it brings to acid indigestion derives from its healing action on the mucous membranes. Herbalists believe it soothes inflamed tissues and draws toxins and other irritants from body tissues.

Licorice. A form of licorice called deglycyrrhizinated licorice (DGL), a chewable form of the herb, is a natural antacid. Unlike a regular licorice, DGL does not have hormonal side effects. This makes DGL more effective and will not lead to elevated blood pressures, which can be a side effect of other forms. Licorice helps fight ulcerations caused by hyperacidity.

Gentian. Gentian contains a chemical (gentianine) that stimulates the secretion of stomach acid, lending some credence to its 3,000-year old history as a digestive aid. Try it before meals. Gentian tastes very bitter, so you might want to add honey to your decoction.

Mint. An ancient medicinal herb, mint is a cooling diaphoretic that relieves indigestion, gas or colic, and heartburn. It can also calm nausea and vomiting. The menthol in mint appears to soothe the smooth muscle lining of the digestive tract. Some studies show peppermint also may help to prevent stomach ulcers and stimulate bile secretions.

Papaya (Fruit and Leaves). While papaya is not known as a herb, its plant has a surprising potency in combating digestive disorders and calming down a disturbed gastrointestinal tract. Its powerful enzyme, papain, helps to breakdown complex proteins, reducing the digestive load on the stomach.

Steamed cabbage is also reportedly known to work. The glutamine in cabbage is said to be effective in settling an irritated stomach. Alternatively, you can try consuming fresh cabbage juice. Drink this juice immediately after preparation. Also, always chew your food well and eat in a relaxed and stress-free setting to prevent acid indigestion.

You should attend to your acid indigestion if it persists or worsens, despite having tried various solutions you try or adjustments you make in your diet. Get a proper diagnosis by your physician.

Herb Garden Plants

Herb Garden Plants

Herb Garden Plants

Herb plants come in annuals, perennials, and biennials like other types of plants. There are so many different types of herbs and each one is different.

If you are interested in a specific type of herb, you should research that one to understand the care it needs and how to use it properly. This article will get you started in understanding general different types of herb plants and what they are used for.

Annuals like basil, cilantro, and summer savory will not survive a frost. They need to be planted from a seed or a small plant every year. Perennials like sage and winter savory can survive colder temperatures and will return year after year.

Biennial herbs are plants that form leaves in their first growing season and flowers and seed in the second season, then die. Biennial herbs like parsley, angelica, or caraway should be sown in late spring directly into the garden. Prepare the soil first by working it to a fine texture and wet it slightly.

Plant the seeds in shallow rows then firm the soil on top of them. Fine seeds can be planted in a mixture of sand which will allow them to spread more evenly. You can also cover the bed with wet burlap or paper in order to keep the soil moist during germination.

Herbs are also grouped into the categories for which they are used. Culinary herbs are probably the most useful to herb gardeners. They have a huge range of different uses in cooking.

Because of their strong flavors, herbs like chives, thyme, basil, sage, savory, and marjoram are generally used in small quantities to add flavor to different types of food. Parsley is an extremely popular herb that is used mostly as a garnish. Aromatic herbs have pleasant smelling flowers or foliage.

Oils from aromatic herbs like loyage, mint, and rosemary can be used to make different types of perfumes, toilet water, or other various scents. Parts of aromatic herb plants used intact can also be used in the home to scent linens or clothing.

They can also be dried and made into potpourri which will enable them to be able to retain their aroma for a long period of time. Lavender and lemon verbena are great herbs to use for potpourri. Some herbs are also used for medicinal purposes. For centuries herbs have been thought to have the ability to cure the body.

Present medical knowledge recognizes that some herbs are beneficial to one's health, others are overrated. Herbs used for medicinal purposes should be used carefully. Some herbs are harmless but others can be dangerous if eaten.

Some herbs are not used for their flavor, power to heal or fragrance. Some herbs are also used for their beauty. Ornamental herbs have brightly colored flowers and foliage. Many have whitish or various light colored flowers like valerian which has crimson blossoms and borage and chicory which grow gorgeous blue flowers.

While herbs can be categorized into these different categories of uses, many herbs have multiple purposes. For example, mint may be used for cooking, tea, and pest control. Whatever the reason you have an interest in herbs, by understanding herb garden plants you are able to pick the herbs that will be most useful to you.

Helpful Tips for a Beautiful and Flawless Skin

We all want to wake up to having perfect skin. So what is the secret of flawless skin? The secret to beautiful skin is no secret at allwhat you have to do is take care of yourself by routinely following a few tips (and perhaps a detox from time to time). Complete skin care can be summed up in three categories, all of which are equally important: nourishment, skin hygiene, and stress.

Nourishment

When it comes to skin care, everyone focuses on the cleansing and moisturizing but what we tend to forget is that nourishment is the real basis. Be sure to eat enough vegetables and fruits, and choose food rich in proteins, antioxidants, and vitamins, especially vitamin C.

Lower your intake of sugar and dairy products, except yogurt which is actually good for you due to its helpful bacteria. You should also cut down on alcohol and caffeine, and try to avoid fried and spicy food.

Apart from food, your daily consumption of water is also significant for the state of your skin. Make sure to drink enough of it, about 2 liters per day.

Stress

You can have a perfect diet and your skin cleaning technique may be spotless, yet it is also important to note that stress also leaves a mark on our skin, especially in the form of wrinkles and skin dryness. The skin on your face is influenced by stress as much as the rest of your body.

There are different ways to reduce stress, if possible lessen or eliminate stress factor but also try doing any kind of sport or exercise. Sleep is also crucial for stress management, so try to sleep for 8 hours every day.

Skin hygiene

So, apart from food and stress, you also have to take care of your skin hygiene. When cleaning your skin, make sure you use products that suit your skin type. But regardless if your skin belongs to normal, oily, dry, combination or sensitive skin type, the routine is the same: cleansing, exfoliating, moisturizing and applying sun cream.

Cleanse your skin daily

When cleansing your skin, make sure you wipe off your makeup first. This is even more relevant when it comes to waterproof makeup because makeup blocks pores which can result in blackheads. You can cleanse your skin with different products but what is more important is the frequency of cleansing. It is enough to clean their face once or twice a day.

Wash your face in warm water, as hot water can actually make your skin more oily. Also, popping pimples is not a good idea, since it can lead to scarring. Try to lower the swelling by using rose water or baking soda.

Pro tip: since daily removal of waterproof mascara can irritate the sensitive skin around your eyes try using semi permanent eyelashes instead.

Moisturize to protect your skin

After cleaning your skin, use moisturizer to shield your skin from dirt and elements. Though moisturizing is useful do not apply it during the night, as skin needs rest too. If you dont want to use a product, you may want to try some natural alternatives such as shea butter, aloe vera, coconut or olive oil.

Exfoliate weekly

Apart from cleaning the skin, it is also important to exfoliate it as well. Exfoliating offers deeper cleansing of pores and removal of dead skin cells. It shouldnt be done too often, no more than once or twice a week. You can use any kind of facial scrubs but you can also use baking soda, sea salt or honey and even coffee!

Applying sun cream

Sun rays, including UVA and UVB rays, harm your skin in the long run, by causing wrinkles and spots. This is why it is important to use sun cream to protect your skin. Apply creams with the SPF of 30 or higher. Do not only use it on the beach at summer time but also in snowy mountains, as snow also reflects the sun.

All in all, it is not impossible to have beautiful skin, but you have to be persistent. Create your personal skin cleaning routine, find the time and ways to relax and take care of your diet. These tips should provide you with beautiful and flawless skin even without the use of professional makeup or Photoshop.

Heat Up Your Thanksgiving Dinner

Did you know that research reflects eating chiles at least 24 out of every 30 days really assists overall health and well-being. This research was conducted by Jin Y. Kang, MD of the National University of Singapore and reported in my book, "Real Women Eat Chiles".

A few assorted facts from his study reflects that ulcer-free patients ate 2.6 times more chile than those with ulcers. Those who got ulcers only ate chiles 8 times a month compared with those who them 24 times. Eating chiles also helps reduce hypertension, by increasing the pulse which helps stem off strokes and the ravishing effects of high blood pressure.

Increase your health happily, by adding chiles to your Thanksgiving dinner. Add green or red chile to the stuffing (or dressing), as well as to the gravy. Pure, ground red or green chiles are the easiest way to add them.

You can also add chiles to your side dishes or salads. Some ideas are powdered or crushed red chile is wonderful along with cinnamon or nutmeg with sweet potatoes. Crushed caribe chile is terrific on green vegetables, from green beans to Brussels sprouts to broccoli. You can also add lemon or lime juice or a special vinegar such as sherry or balsamic. Add chiles to spice walnuts, pecans or croutons for salad garnishes.

And believe it or not, chiles are great in desserts, from chocolate cake to pumpkin pie. So live it up--chiles lift your heart and your health!!

Here's some fun ideas for spicy appetizers. For a different taste and perfect timing for fall harvest, prepare Roasted Beets with Romesco sauce several days ahead of time and serve cold. Or try Grilled Serrano-Lime Shrimp which can be marinated a day or two ahead for last minute grilling or broiling. These recipes are from the new expanded revision of Chili Madness cookbook, published, October, 2008.

ROASTED BEETS WITH ROMESCO SAUCE

Beets are either loved or hated, and many people are in the latter camp. But I have won over dedicated beet haters by serving them this appetizer. You will be amazed at how terrific the roasted beets taste with this creamy, spicy, flavorful sauce. I sampled this dish first as a Spanish tapa, and I have been making it ever since. The sauce, by the way, can substitute for a remoulade sauce with seafood such as shrimp, crab, or crayfish, or with vegetables, such as steamed or boiled tiny new potatoes. When roasting, leave 3 inches of stem on the beets to prevent the juice from bleeding too much.

Yield: Serves 6

6 to 8 small fresh beets (about 1 bunch)
1 medium-size ripe tomato
2 large cloves garlic
5 blanched almonds
1 Tablespoons red wine vinegar
cup good-quality extra-virgin olive oil
corn tortilla (6-inch), torn into chunks
1 Tablespoon pure ground mild red chile
Generous pinch of pequin quebrado
Salt and freshly ground pepper

1.Prepare the beets: Preheat the oven to 350F. Wash and dry the beets, and trim the stems to 3 inches long (you can discard the leaves or reserve them for another use).

2.Place the beets on a baking sheet and transfer them to the oven. Roast the beets until their skins move slightly when touched with a spoon, about 30 minutes for small beets (less then 2 inches in diameter), up to 60 minutes for larger beets.

3.While the beats are roasting, prepare the romesco sauce: Rinse the tomato, remove the core, and cut a very shallow X into the bottom (this will allow you to remove the tomato's skin when it's cooked). Place the tomato, stem end up, the garlic, and the almonds on an ungreased baking sheet and place them in the oven. Roast in the oven along with the beets for about 15 minutes. Remove the garlic and almonds. Then continue to roast the tomato until it is soft, about 15 minutes more. Remove it from the oven. When the tomato and the garlic cloves are cool enough to handle, slip off the skins.

4.Let the beets cool until they're still warm but not hot to the touch. Then peel them by tugging at the skin with a sharp paring knife- the skin and stems should slip off. Any stubborn portions will need to be peeled with a knife. Dice the beets into -inch cubes.

5.Pour 1/3 cup water, the vinegar, and the oil into a blender. Add the roasted tomato, garlic, and almonds, followed by the tortilla chunks, ground chile, pequin quebrado, and salt and black pepper to taste. Process until smooth. Then Tast, and adjust the seasonings as needed. Transfer the sauce to a small serving bowl.

6.Center the bowl of sauce on a serving platter and surround it with the diced beets. Provide toothpicks for piercing the beets and dipping them into the sauce.

GRILLED SERRANO-LIME SHRIMP

These zesty shrimp are marinated in freshly squeezed lime juice, then amped up with hot Serrano chiles. They're excellent party fare and an elegant appetizer for an intimate dinner. You can double, triple or even quadruple the recipe as you with.

Yield: Serves 6

cup fresh lime juice
2 serrano chiles (or to taste), stemmed, seeded (if you wish to reduce the heat), and finely minced
teaspoon salt
2 cloves garlic, minced
24 medium-size shrimp, peeled and deveined
1 teaspoon crushed caribe chile or pequin quebrado, for garnish
1 small bunch fresh cilantro or Italian (flat-leaf) parsley, for garnish

1.Place the lime juice, serranos, salt, and garlic in a large nonreactive bowl and stir to combine. Blot the shrimp dry with paper towels and add them to the marinade. Marinate the shrimp, covered, in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours or up to a day.

2.Preheat the grill or broiler to medium-high heat.

3.Thread the shrimp onto metal skewers, 3 or 4 shrimp to a skewer, piercing the center of the shrimp and making sure each shrimp nests under the previous one and faces the same way. Make sure the shrimp aren't tightly squeezed together, as this will produce uneven cooking.

4.Grill the shrimp until they just turn pink, 2 to 3 minutes per side. (Be careful not to overcook them, or they will become tough and dry)

5.Transfer the shrimp, still on their skewers, to a serving platter. Sprinkle with the crushed caribe chile, then garnish with the cilantro sprigs. Serve warm.

A heart attack is also known as myocardial infarction (MI). A heart attack can also occur by a spasm of a coronary artery. During coronary artery spasm, the coronary arteries restrict the blood supply to the heart muscle resulting heart attack.

Healing Your Experience of Inner Emptiness

Healing Your Experience of Inner Emptiness

Healing Your Experience of Inner Emptiness

What do you think causes you to feel empty inside? Is it the lack of other people in your life and what they're not doing, or that we have not fulfilled a dream we've long had? When I was younger, I had no clue about what was important to me or how I was feeling. I had been taught to care for everyone around me and learned to ignore my own inner voice. I had abandoned my most important relationship ...my relationship with myself and I didn't know what it meant to love and support 'me'.

I've worked with many people who feel empty inside. They often think something is missing in their lives and attempt to focus on life outside of themselves instead of looking inward. Generally, I hear: "I am upset because I don't have or get enough ... "

attention
love
money
approval from family
approval from friends

Does this sound familiar to you? Many of us attempt to rely too much on other people or things to meet our needs and fulfill us vs. focusing on loving and supporting ourselves and meeting our own needs. This often looks like blaming others (as well as things) for where we are at in our lives.

My life would have meaning if I had a partner.
I am stuck in this job (that doesn't fulfill me) because I have a family to feed.
She took the only man I've ever loved, or the only job I have ever wanted.
My partner won't marry me, ...he doesn't provide me with enough stimulation and I am bored.
Life is boring, and nothing excites me.

Do you ever hear yourself thinking these thoughts, or reflecting examples like these to others? I certainly have, but realize that none of these excuses cause inner emptiness. People who feel empty inside generally experience themselves as flawed. There's a core wounding and worthiness issue that stems from programmed beliefs about who we are. We lack a sense of deserving to have what we want. Often, our unnecessary fears and hostility from others cause us to come to conclusions like, "there is something seriously wrong with me. ...I am not enough". We're bad, inadequate, selfish, unlovable, un-important ...always wrong. Our wounded self operates from a core of shame and it's a powerful force.

Negative thoughts and unconscious core beliefs cause people to engage in unhealthy activities and behaviors. People use processes or substances as an addict who's attempting to fill a large dark and empty well. We cause our emptiness through our own self-judgement. We abandon ourselves through numbing our feelings or ignoring our need to eat, sleep or even go to the bathroom by staying in our head and ignoring what we feel. When we believe we're not good enough we'll turn our focus outside of ourselves and attempt to make other people responsible for loving and supporting us. We seek attention through what we wear, caretaking, niceness, over-talking or story-telling. We use sex to feel okay with ourselves but end up feeling more empty.

What are some things you do that distract you from being present to who you are and what's best for you? Have you ever found yourself using unhealthy behaviors that have become a bad habit? Process activities like anger, blame, over-shopping, over-spending, over-working, over-eating, over-exercising, computer games, email, gambling, internet, telephone, or watching too much television? What about substances like: food, sugar, alcohol, cigarettes or drugs? While these might work for some in the moment, it won't be long before the pain of separation is back. The problem with all of these choices is that they only address the symptom of inner emptiness and not the underlying cause. They are not healthy solutions.

As an adult, its important to separate yourself from negative projections from your past that have no real basis in what's true for you today. Take your power back! ...don't let remnants of negative energy (from others) run your life.

Inner emptiness is caused by a lack of connection to the love you feel inside and to spirit.

What's missing is the love coming through us and long forgotten passions that give us a sense of purpose in the world. Inner emptiness is caused by self-abandonment and not caring for, nor loving ourselves enough. It is not caused by anything or anyone outside of us. The only thing that truly fills the emptiness is Love for yourself, for others and towards something that gives you a sense of passion and a higher purpose in your life. Today you are in charge of your happiness and your destiny. Happy, people have learned to meet their own needs and to make themselves a priority.

So how do we do it?

By shifting your attention and focus inward.

Take time to get to know what's important to you by getting in touch with how you feel about things in your daily life.

Take a good look at your relationship, your friendships, what your are eating, how you're sleeping, where you work and your home environment. Notice what is reflected back to you and how you feel about it. How are these things serving you? ... and if they are not, what are you going to do to change them?

When you hear yourself ask for something you need, attend to your needs.

If you don't like going to the gym (and you're going to be watching the clock the whole time your there), ...don't go! I've been there, ...do something else. Try something new!

If you are not connected to your companies mission statement, it's slowly killing you to work there!

Feeling gloomy, perhaps it's your environment trying to share something with you. Re-paint your walls to reflect more joy, ...take the curtains down and let more light in!

Love yourself as well as others through greater self-care practices on a daily basis. Small-steps lead to big-change!

Live your life to the fullest and enjoy the process and learning that can be had from trying something completely different and a new adventure!

Greeting in Thailand vs Greeting in Zambia - How Two Different Cultures Compare

Greeting in Thailand vs Greeting in Zambia - How Two Different Cultures Compare

When it comes to visiting different countries it is often a good idea to familiarise yourself with the basics of communicating with the natives of the country you are planning to visit. In such scenarios it becomes beneficial to utilise translation services although learning basic greetings in a foreign language may not necessarily warrant the use of professional translation services. There are many ways in which you can pick up the basic lingo through means such as language translation apps. We have previously highlighted some useful translation apps for travellers including apps such as Google Translate and Trip Lingo which can both help in communicating in foreign languages.

Below we explore two different cultures and languages and how people generally greet each other.

Thailand

The Thai language is native to over 20 million speakers and is a second language for over 40 million people. Thailand attracts many tourists from all corners of the globe from its rich culture, beautiful beaches and friendly people many travellers often decide to stay or return after visiting Thailand. Backpackers can be seen flocking the streets of Bangkok and the famous Khao San Road located in Bangkok is perfect for affordable hour long massages less than the value of GBP 5.00. With many vibrant bars and plenty of Thai street food to choose from this is a must go place when visiting Bangkok.

So you have chosen to visit Thailand. Now how do you greet people?

In Thailand the way you greet people depends on your gender. Males and females greet differently and learning this will sure impress the locals as it shows you have taken time to appreciate the culture.

When meeting or greeting someone men say Sawatdee Krap and women say Sawatdee-Kah which both translate from Thai to English as hello. The greeting is returned with the other party repeating the same.

Whilst greeting both hands are put together in a prayer like position with the fingers extended to the chest and a slight bow with the head. The higher the hands are placed the more respect is show to the other person. Do remember to never place the tips of the fingers above the eyes as this may be a sign of disrespect.

In Thailand people are often referred to by their first name whether in a formal or informal setting. If your name is John Smith you would be referred to as Mr John. This is not to be taken as an insult or demeaning as in the west we would say Mr Smith.

Although spoken by the majority in the South East region of Asia the Thai language is not the only language spoken there. Other minority languages exist in various regions such as the Lao dialect of Isan and the Malay language most prevalent around the Thai/Malaysian border.

Zambia

In comparison to Thailand, Zambia the landlocked county located in southern Africa is home to a population of just over 16 million people. Tourists are mainly attracted to Zambia due to the countrys wildlife and natural wonders such as the Zambezi River and Victoria falls. From its beautiful resorts to friendly culture this is one place in Africa which offers beautiful safari holidays for all to enjoy.

In Zambia the most common spoken languages are Bemba and Nyanja with both languages spoken by over 60% of the population. Although English is the official language taught in schools and used in formal settings it is safe to say you will not find it hard to communicate coming from an English background. However if you would like to impress the locals by learning some basics here is how to greet in Bemba and Nyanja.

Bemba Muli-Shani meaning how are you. You would respond with Wino-Shani (pronounced weno-shaani) which means Im fine, how are you? The other person would the respond with Wino stating they are ok.

Nyanja Muli-Bwanji means how are you? You respond with Bwino-Bwanji (pronounced bweeno-bwanji) of which the other party responds with Bwino which means they are fine.

In comparison to the Thai language where different sexes use different words to greet one another in Zambian culture greeting is the same regardless of whether you are male or female. A verbal greeting is also conducted with a hand shake by both men and women.

Have you visited any other countries where greetings are different for men or women? Share with us below any greeting tips for a particular country you live in or have visited.

Great News For Folks With Nut Allergies!

This article was originally posted at http://www.apple-a-day-clinic.com/Health_and_Nutrition_Blog?m8:post=grea...

People who are allergic to one type of nut are usually told to avoid all types of tree nuts, however, this may be an unnecessary caution.
Good News for Those With Nut Allergies
Tree nuts - image from Shutterstock
Here are some nutty facts for you to consider. Nuts that we eat are called culinary nuts and they are the fruits or seeds of plants. They are known for their fat content, usually classified as "healthy fats", although not all nuts are high in fat. There are four categories of culinary nuts:

True or botanical nuts which are dry and hard-shelled. Hazelnuts, acorns, and chestnuts fall into this category.
Drupes which have fleshy fruit surrounding a stone, or pit, and contain a seed. Almonds are an example.
Gymnosperms which are naked seeds like pine nuts.
Angiosperm seeds which are unenclosed seeds within a larger fruit like peanuts.
Nuts have been consumed by humans all over the globe for thousands of years, as snacks, as garnish, and to add flavor to all kinds of dishes. Today there are eleven kinds of nuts that make up most of the nut market globally.

Almonds
Cashews
Chestnuts
Coconuts
Hazelnuts
Macadamia Nuts
Peanuts
Pecans
Pine nuts
Pistachios
Walnuts
Thats all good for those who love nuts and regularly consume them, but manypeople have nut allergies. In fact, in the U.S., approximately three million people report allergies to peanuts and tree nuts. Studies show the number of children living with peanut allergy appears to have tripled between 1997 and 2008.

Conventional wisdom says that if someone is allergic to one type of nut, they should avoid all nuts. However, in a new study conducted by the American College of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology (ACAAI), 109 patients who were allergic to nuts were tested. The patients in the study were given skin and blood tests to determine if they were allergic to nuts they had never eaten before. The tests showed that indeed, they were sensitive to these other nuts, but then they were given an oral challenge. When asked to eat small amounts of these nuts half of the participants had no adverse reaction.

The symptoms of nut allergies should be taken seriously. At the worst end of the reaction spectrum, anaphylaxis can occur, while other symptoms range from vomiting, nausea, diarrhea, pain, and itchiness. However, the idea that if youre allergic to one kind of nut, youre allergic to them all might not be as clear cut as was previously thought. In addition to highly sensitive blood tests, people with nut allergies can also consider what the experts call an oral food challenge, eating small amounts of nuts to test for reactions.

All of this could be good news for people with an allergy to one type of nut. They may be able to find other nuts to include in their diets. This is especially good news considering that tree nuts may reduce cancer risk.

Going On A Food Trip In San Juan, Puerto Rico

Going On A Food Trip In San Juan, Puerto Rico

Going On A Food Trip In San Juan, Puerto Rico

Your experience of a place would not be complete without a taste of its culinary offerings. In Puerto Rico, its criolla dishes are a must-try although international and fusion cuisines are also served in a lot of restaurants. Dining options run the gamut from upscale places to casual diners. The capital, San Juan, offers a wide and interesting variety of restaurants and is the perfect place for the ultimate Puerto Rican food experience.

Comida criolla or creole food refers to the local cuisine in Puerto Rico. It's a melting pot (no pun intended) of traditional Taino food, Spanish culinary influence, and African cooking. Some of the most popular criolla dishes are lechon asado (roasted pork), adobo (seasoning made of vinegar, paprika, oil, garlin, and oregano), asopoa de pollo (stewed chicken), habichuelas (rice and red beans served with meat), and sofrito (a sauce made of cilantro onion, garlic, pepper, and other seasonings and spices). Criolla cooking also features several manners of cooking plantains. There's tostones which is mashed green plantains, platanos which slightly varies from tostones in cooking style, and mofongo which is a ball of crushed plantains mixed with meat or seafood that were fried and flavored with seasonings such garlic and tomato-based sauce.

Being nestled in the abundant waters of the Caribbean, Puerto Rico certainly cannot do without seafood cuisines. The tastiest seafood dishes can be found in the coastal cities. The Caribbean lobster is one of the premier catches in restaurants although the dolphinfish and red snapper are popular as well. The most well-known seafood specialty however would probably be the conch stuffed with tomato for a fritter or served with a ceviche salad.

To further promote criolla cuisine to travelers, the government has created the Mesones Gastronomicos program. In this project, the 30 participating restaurants throughout the island will all serve traditional Puerto Rican fare. It doesn't mean though that you can only taste authentic criolla cooking in these dining places. Smaller restaurants that offer native cuisines abound in San Juan and the rest of Puerto Rico.

Other upscale restaurants specialize in what is called the Nuevo Latino cuisine, a culinary style similar to criolla but predominantly uses fruits, fish, and tubers as main ingredients with tropical marinades and dark rum sauces as primary flavors. Most ingredients in Nuevo Latino cooking are locally sourced so as to maximize the fresh flavors of the produce. Restaurants serving this cuisine are mostly found in San Juan and other bigger cities of Puerto Rico. Tourists who crave for international cuisines won't be disappointed as well. There are a lot of dining areas in San Juan that serve Italian, French, Arabian, Mexican, American, German, and Latin American dishes.

Along with the sumptuous food, another major part of Puerto Rican food is the beverage. This Caribbean island is also known for its strong drinks, its national beverage being the rum. There are about 20 different varieties of rum here. Puerto Rican coffee also packs a strong punch. It can be served as espresso, sweetened or with milk which is known as cafe con leche. If you're looking for a milder drink, you can try coco frio which is served on a chilled coconut and a selection of fresh fruit juices.

Budget meals in Puerto Rico usually range from $5 to $15 while higher end dining can go up to $35. Upscale restaurants often require a dress code such as collared shirts for men and stylish apparel for women while the most expensive dining venues are usually black tie. Making a reservation is recommended especially from mid-November to April when tourists are usually flocking to Puerto Rico.

Get Familiar with the Usability of Glass and Plastic Containers

There is a common myth prevailing in many of us i.e. glass is better than plastics. However, this is not at all true. Glass products whether it is a container or any other thing it has same effects as the plastics. It is capable of causing the same damage to the environment as done by plastics.

Since human beings are in constant need of these products, we all have come up with recycling of these products. Now, instead of just abandoning a plastic or glass, we all tend to reuse it again and again to cater our own needs and at the same time preventing to from damaging the environment.

Now, some of might be wondering, with so many disadvantageous factors which product will prove to be a better one. Although, it is quite difficult to tell exactly which types of containers are better for mankind but still, mentioned below is a concise detail about each of the product which will help you to take better decisions.

What is Glass Containers?

Glass containers are something which we all are required to use on regular basis. It, in fact, is used for storing food and beverages in most parts of the world. Mentioned below are the pros and cons related to the use of a glass product.

Advantages of Glass Bottles

There are in general three basic advantages of using a glass container which is mentioned below:

Easy to use: The glass products are actually easy to use and take care of. If you have a glass container carrying some sort of edible item it, you can simply wash it and use it somewhere else.
Durable: The glass food storage containers are designed in such a way so that it offers a long lasting effect on any sort of climatic conditions. You can put it in your refrigerator or you can simply put it under direct sunlight. A product made of glass will offer much better protection to the item put in it than any other product unless it gets damaged or gets broke.
Long Lasting Effects: A Tupperware made of glass will last much longer than any other kind of products.

Disadvantages of Glass Bottles

Needs Attention: If you have a container made up of glass, you will need to pay a lot more attention than any other thing. Glass can break easily. Even a minor negligence can lead to some major problems.
Weight: This is probably the most common issue with glass containers. These products can really get quite heavy in terms of its design and texture.
Non-Degradable: A product made of glass will take years to degrade and thus will affect the environment.

What is Plastic Containers?

Plastics are probably the worst yet vital invention by the mankind. It is required on our day-to-day basis. If you want to know more about the product, just go through the below passages.

Advantages of Plastic Bottles

Weightless: This is probably the most beneficial aspect of a plastic container. These things are negligible in weight. Hence, it really becomes easy to carry around a container made of plastic.
Durable: If managed properly, these things will last long. It is also very convenient to carry relatively heavy products in it without much difficulty.

In gas stoves the heat distribution is more even as compared to electrical stoves or wood stoves. Moreover the heat precision is also much more exact in gas stoves as compared to others. For instance if you lower the heat level on a gas stove then the change is in the amount of heat which is immediate and precise.

Moreover a creates less heat as compared to other stoves. However this doesn't mean that gas stoves cook the food slow and late; it just means that your kitchen will be cooler. Gain Weight the Healthy Way

World over obesity has been classified as a major problem but not much has been spoken about individuals struggling to gain weight.  Being obese or underweight are two sides of the same coin as both result from an unbalanced diet. In medical terms, a person whose body mass index (BMI) is above 30 is considered obese and below 18.5 is considered underweight. While most people are well aware of harmful effects of being overweight, they simply overlook or are unaware of the health risks associated with being underweight.

The harmful effects of being underweight include impairment of immune function, increased susceptibility to infections. osteoporosis, fractures, fertility problems and dementia. It would not be wrong to say that being underweight is medically just as unhealthy as being obese. Hence, it is imperative for each individual to maintain a healthy body weight and lifestyle. Healthy body weight apart from reducing the susceptibility to various diseases, also translates into feeling more energetic and being able to do more activities.

Individuals more often than not associate being underweight with less than optimal food intake i.e. getting less energy via food or being over active. But weight gain is just as hard as losing weight. One of the first steps is to identify the underlying cause of being underweight i.e. it may be due to hypothyroidism which needs to be treated. Post understanding the underlying cause, one needs to list down the daily major activities and look into the calorie intake. This is what your nearby nutritionists can help you with. In this article I have tried to list down some generic diet and lifestyle tips which can be easily incorporated by anyone in his/ her daily routine.

Below are some easy, well established and effective tips to gain weight:

1. Consume more calories

As a rough estimate, if you wish to gain weight steadily, you should aim to eat 300-500 calories more than you burn each day. And if you wish to gain weight fast, you should aim to consume 700-1000 calories more than you burn. Further, you should be having at least 3 meals a day with the right combination of protein, carbs and fat in each meal.

2. Increase your sleep time

Your body rests and absorbs nutrients while spending minimum calories when you sleep. Hence, you should aim to get 8-9 hours of sleep each day to ensure all the calories consumed are stored in your body.

3. Have protein rich and energy dense diet

You need to make sure that you gain healthy amount of muscle mass and subcutaneous fat and not just unhealthy belly fat.  As your muscles are made up of protein, you should aim to intake 1.5-2.2 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight. Protein rich foods include meats, fish, eggs, dairy products and whey protein (in case you are unable to include enough proteins in diet). Further, you should aim to include energy dense foods in your diet. Such foods include nuts, dried fruit, cream, potatoes, dark chocolate, avocados and peanut butter.

4. Hit the gym

While it may seem counter intuitive to burn your calories by hitting the gym, lifting weights at least 2-3 times a week will ensure that the excess calories result in muscle mass and not just body fat.

Apart from following above tips, you need to follow a diet plan that has been customised as per your dietary preferences, lifestyle, medical history, metabolism and body type. Meet your nearest nutritionist to get a customized diet plan. This along with continuous tracking of results will help you in achieving your ideal body weight in minimum time and in a sustainable manner.

Wish you all the best for your weight gain journey!
